「英語で科学を楽しもう」2024年度前期のテーマが決定しました

人気のクラス、マット先生の「英語で科学を楽しもう」の2024年度前期開講スケジュールが決まりました。
昨年度は、「食物」「呼吸」「飛行と宇宙」「電気とは何か」「食物連鎖」などを学びました。
マット先生がテーマについて用語集や、テキスト、ビデオを使って分かりやすく解説します。

本クラスでは科学の知識を深めるだけでなく、科学的な視点で物事の見方や考え方を学んだり、
最新の科学ニュースを学ぶこともできます。
教養を深めたい大人から、英検や大学受験（英語）対策を考えている学生まで幅広い層が受講しています。

2024年前期のテーマ

DAY1＆2　Telescopes and Microscopes：望遠鏡と顕微鏡

Telescopes and microscopes allow us to explore the vast universe and the tiniest of objects. In this class we will learn how both telescopes and microscopes work, examples of the most famous ones, what new discoveries these devices have shown us, and the history of their invention. Telescopes and microscopes allow us to peer into the secrets of our reality.

望遠鏡と顕微鏡は、広大な宇宙や最も小さな物体を探索することを可能にします。このクラスでは、望遠鏡と顕微鏡の仕組み、最も有名な例、これらの装置が示した新たな発見、およびその発明の歴史について学びます。望遠鏡や顕微鏡を使えば、私たちは現実の秘密を覗き見ることができます。

DAY3＆4　Gravity：重力

Not floating off the ground is pretty cool. You can thank gravity, one of the four fundamental forces for allowing you to stay grounded. Gravity is a force that governs the way objects interact. During this topic, we will learn about the properties of gravity, see how planets and stars interact with each other, how galaxies move through the universe, and learn about celestial objects in our galaxy.

DAY5&6　Sound and Measuring Sound：音と音の測定

Sound, a harmonic melody of vibrations or a chaotic cacophony, is either music to our ears or a signal to get away all starts with a vibration. In this topic, we will discuss how sound works, the various mediums in which sound can be heard, and some interesting facts about sound. Lastly, we will learn how sound is measured and what causes the differences in sound.

音は、調和の美しい旋律なのか混沌とした不協和音かによって、心地よい音楽にも「逃げろ」という合図にもなります。このトピックでは、音の仕組みや音が聞こえるさまざまな媒体、および音に関する興味深い事実について議論します。最後に、音がどのように測定され、音の違いを引き起こす要因について学びます。

DAY7&8　Cells：細胞

The average human has about 37 trillion cells. There are a lot of little capsules making you who you are. Let’s take out some microscopes and discover what is inside those little capsules. We will learn about the different parts of the cell, how they interact with each other, and specialize to perform different functions in our bodies.

平均的な人間は約37兆個の細胞を持っています。たくさんの小さなカプセルが、あなたという人間を作り上げていいます。顕微鏡を取り出して、その小さなカプセルの中に何があるかを発見しましょう。細胞の異なる部分について学び、それらが体内で異なる機能を果たすためにどのように相互作用し、専門化するかを学びます。

DAY9&10　How to be a Scientist and The Different Fields of Science… Also… Something to be wary of…：科学者になる方法と異なる科学の分野…また…注意すべきこと…

What do different scientists do? What is the scientific process? How do they come to their conclusions on the nature of reality, accurately and precisely? And, can we truly see reality as it is? An important question to ask yourself once in a while.

異なる科学者は何をしているのか？科学的プロセスとは何か？彼らはどのようにして、現実の性質について正確かつ精密に結論を出すのか？そして、我々は本当に現実をそのまま見ることができるのか？時折自問する重要な質問です。
